How to use Alcohol Inks
Hi, Melissa here. Earlier this year I was at SENZ with Crafty Tart demonstrating a variety of different inks. One of those inks was the Adirondack alcohol inks that are part of the Tim Holtz range by Ranger. Ever since then Kate has been asking me to do a video to share some of the basics with you. It took me a couple of months to get a video camera but I have finally made a little video for you. I am no Steven Spielberg, but hopefully you will get the idea.
I also showed this technique as part of a class I taught. Everybody ended up with very different, one of a kind embellishments that matched their layouts perfectly, from the same basic colour set and shapes cut from glossy cardstock. Alcohol inks can be used on any non-porous surface including glossy cardstock, vellum, transparency, metal and plastic. I would definitely recommend them as items to add to your scrapbooking/crafting arsenal.
I have then used the butterflies on this page. The raisin and butterscotch combination matching perfectly with the new Indian Summer paper from Basic Grey.
One thing I didn't mention on the video was blending solution. This is the stuff that you can add to the felt pad with the ink to help it blend, or add separately after you have applied your ink to move or remove the ink. I would definitely advise you get this with your ink. It is also great for cleaning up or getting ink off your hands ;-)
If there is anything you would like to know more about, pop into the forum and find the alcohol ink thread in the product specific topics. If you have a video request for other products, leave a comment here or in the forum.
Bye for now,
Melissa
